Your Specific Responsibilities:
This is a highly responsible epidemiology position which will be under the direct supervision of the Health Manager. The OPS Biological Scientist III OR OPS Biological Scientist IV position is an advanced professional position within a county-wide COVID-19 response team. This position is responsible for COVID-19 control and prevention efforts and supports the guidance and protocols of the Department. This position consults with, and is a liaison to, high level officials in agencies andpolitical jurisdictions. Specific duties and responsibilities are performed and accomplished independently with only limited supervision by the immediate supervisor. Duties are as follows:
This position is responsible for performing descriptive and analytic epidemiologic investigations involving cases, clusters and outbreaks of COVID-19. Responsible for conducting case investigations and interviews, contact tracing, prompt implementation of appropriate control measures, coordinating shipment of laboratory specimens to BPHL, case documentation and timely reporting, research and public health surveillance, and field epidemiological investigations of disease clusters, outbreaks, and individual cases of COVID-19. Conducts continuous public health surveillance including monitoring of Merlin task lists, disease reports, and other mechanisms for monitoring incidence of reportable diseases. Prepares technical reports, summaries of investigations, scientific papers and performs related work as required. Provides support and direction to the Department of Health in Hendry & Glades County, local clinics, hospital infection control staff, private physicians, laboratories, nursing homes, community partners, and other facilities concerning early detection of COVID-19 and appropriate prevention and control measures. May consult with the State Health Office and/or Regional Epidemiologists/Lab Liaisons as appropriate. Notifies supervisor and leadership immediately upon identification of suspected outbreaks, disease clusters, and/or individual cases of public health significance.
Functions as liaison to infection control staff of local hospitals, local health care facilities, and partner agencies. Maintains accurate records and provides timely reporting into the Merlin disease reporting system.
Assists in planning and preparing education materials for staff, medical personnel and community at large on issues related to the COVID-19 prevention, management and reporting. Conducts training and/or presentations as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum: Must possess a valid, unrestricted Florida driver’s license. Must have a bachelor’s degree in Science from anaccredited U.S. college or university.
Preferred: A Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH), Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university. Experience in Disease Control (Reportable disease, STD or HIVdisease investigation) program. Experience in Florida DOH Epidemiology programs (i.e. – Merlin, Essence,HMS, FLSHOTS, Epigateway, ILInet, Epi Info, etc.). Experience with Electronic Health Records including scanning of documents. Experience working as a Hospital Infection Control Preventionist or a Health Department Epidemiologist. Experience conducting epidemiological and/or medical interviews.
