Job Description

Facilities Management seeks an Automotive Mechanic to repair and maintain light and medium duty trucks, diesel engines, golf carts, and farm/landscape related equipment.

Working Environment

Regularly exposed to potentially hazardous conditions requiring ability to hear, see and perform duties in restricted, congested and/or confined areas, dirty environment, and intense noise. Exposure to natural weather patterns and circumstances, extreme heat/cold. Regularly exposed to fumes, electricity, and vibrations. Exposure to hazardous automotive related materials and moving mechanical parts. Working conditions include prolonged periods of standing and sitting. May be exposed to hazardous and dangerous materials, tools, and equipment which will require safety precautions and/or specific process to be followed, and may include the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (e.g. safety glasses, hearing protection, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator). Use of PPE may require medical clearance prior to use. Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds regularly, stooping, climbing, pushing, pulling, and crawling. Use of hand tools, power tools, and automotive shop related equipment. Drive University vehicles and/or carts.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years experience in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of automobiles and/or heavy equipment; OR Completion of a one year vocational training program in automotive mechanics AND three years experience in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of automobiles, and/or heavy equipment; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.

Desired Qualifications

Evidence of being ASE/FORD certified in electrical systems.

Experience:

  • In the diagnosis, maintenance and repair of automotive, heavy equipment, or farm/landscape related equipment.
  • In the repair and diagnosis of golf cart electrical systems.
  • In Small engine/two cycle engine maintenance and repair.
  • Using basic computer skills (e.g. Windows, Outlook, and MS Office).

Demonstrated knowledge:

  • Of appropriate preventive maintenance techniques and requirements of automotive and other heavy equipment.
  • Of the principles of an internal combustion engine including gasoline, diesel and various alternative fuels.

Evidence of effective verbal and written communication skills.

Essential Duties

Repair and maintain grounds vehicles and equipment. Requisition parts, compute work orders and prepare service records and reports as required. Enter all information into maintenance records system to cover all labor and material costs. Maintain and repair engines and peripherals on gas and diesel equipment. Perform tune-ups on vehicles. Overhaul, repair and/or replace other mechanical parts as needed. Perform diversified electrical work on all automotive and related equipment. Include but is not limited to: install batteries and terminals, repair and adjust lights, repair generators and starters as well as routine jump starts. Use diagnostic equipment as an aid in locating vehicle defects. Troubleshoot and repair or replace digital electronic components and computers. Perform emission control repair, replacement and testing on all required vehicles. Road test vehicles to locate operational defects prior to returning to active use. Drive Non CDL trucks and other vehicles for special events as needed. Repair and maintain heavy equipment as required which may include tractors, crawlers, etc. Operate shop machinery as needed for repairs. Field rescue, repair and maintenance of all Grounds equipment when needed. Ability to smoothly adapt to changing needs and situations. Drive University vehicles and/or carts. Evidence of effective communication skills.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Tuesday – Friday 6:00 am – 4:30 pm

Salary Range

$18.00 per hour. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona
