Job description: The Manufacturing Quality Systems Engineer/Scientist provides leadership and direction in the quality management tools and systems used to manufacture Weyerhaeuser’s engineered lumber products (ELPs). The successful candidate will work closely with the product engineers, plant leadership and technical directors to ensure product quality and design properties comply with North American building code reports and customer expectations. This position is a full-time exempt position located in Federal Way, WA that requires a moderate amount of travel as dictated by assignments.

Key Functions:

• Demonstrated personal commitment to safety
• Develop and execute the ISO 9001 based ELP Quality Managements System
• Lead the manufacturing plant quality audits and the follow-through for resulting corrective actions
• Coordinate and direct development of quality analysis software platforms and reporting tools
• Coordinate continued development of manufacturing standards
• Promote manufacturing quality improvement ideas and communicate/coordinate process changes with stakeholders to ensure product code compliance
• Manage training and development of plant technical directors
• Provide and coordinate technical support for plant technical directors to ensure product quality
• Participate and advise product additives team (resins, waxes, sealers, preservatives, etc) and liaise with additive suppliers to execute laboratory and plant trials
• Support new product development, code compliance and product support initiatives as directed by the Wood Products business

Qualifications

• BS degree in either Wood Science or Engineering (Civil or Structural) .
• Minimum 8 years of technical work experience.
• Previous experience with engineered wood products manufacturing and associated quality programs.
• Understanding of how ELP are used in application, building code requirements, and customer expectations of product quality.
• Strong written, oral, and presentation skills.
• The ability to coordinate, lead, and influence in situations with multiple competing objectives.
• Good attention to detail and deadlines while working across multiple projects and schedules
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Excellent math, analytical, statistical and problem-solving skills
• Highly motivated and organized individual who excels in a dynamic team environment and brings an optimistic, can-do attitude to any task
