Job description: The NH Bar Association (NHBA) is a statewide professional association that supports members of the legal profession and their service to the public and justice system. The NHBA is a unified bar association, meaning that bar association membership is mandatory for all those licensed to practice law in the State of New Hampshire. In addition to providing an array of services and benefits to its members, the NH Bar Association facilitates open and continuing dialogue among lawyers, the courts and other justice system stakeholders while acting as a resource for all those interested in advancing a just society. NHBA’s Business Operations Department supports all depatments and affiliates at the NH Bar Center. The NH Bar Association also works to increase access to justice in New Hampshire through its Lawyer Referral and Law Related Education programs, as well as through its support of NHBA’s charitable arm, the NH Bar Foundation.

The NH Bar Association offers a comfortable working environment with a strong compensation package.

Working hours are Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5 pm (37.50 hours weekly)

Coordinates the Lawyer Referral Service (Full Fee and Modest Means), Law Line, and Free Legal Answers-NH programs, including supervision of support staff. This is a 100% in-office position and only local candidates will be considered.

Requirements:

BS/BA Degree, Paralegal Degree/Certificate or equivalent experience. JD preferred; otherwise, min. 6-8 years’ experience as a paralegal in a legal setting is required.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Respond to requests for legal information from the public and make referrals to panel attorneys or other resources
  • Train and oversee program support staff
  • Recruit LRS panel attorneys and respond to panel attorney needs
  • Develop procedures and system for programs
  • Administer program fees
  • Respond to client grievances and elevate to Director/Committee when needed
  • Work with Director of Marketing, Communications and Member Outreach to manage online presence via social media and NHBA website
  • Compile and track program statistics
  • Assist with program marketing to NHBA members and the public
  • Assist with program budgeting and financial projections
  • Liaison to LRS Committee
  • Monitor LRS trends/update Director
  • Outreach to attorneys at Bar events, meetings, CLEs, etc.
  • Track case statuses and percentage fees. Follow up on delinquent reports from panel members.
  • Determine client financial eligibility for programs
  • Keep current with legal practice trends and key changes in the law to develop new practice panels
  • Write LRS Newsletter to Panel Members
  • Keep up to date on community resources and other legal service programs

Expected salary: $43000 – 47000 per year
