This is an exempt level position.

Position Summary:

The Cell Engineering group is looking for a Scientist I to join the Strain Development team. As part of this team, the successful candidate will have an impactful role on the high throughput engineering of strains. This is an exciting opportunity to help generate thousands of strains each month, using innovative DNA and microbial manipulation techniques, and cutting-edge robotic platforms. Job Responsibilities:

• Perform standard and high-throughput yeast and bacterial transformations, PCR and various DNA manipulation techniques under minimal supervision
• Culture and prepare bacterial and yeast cells for transformation, PCR
• Assist the development of innovative methodologies for high-throughput engineering of bacteria and yeast
• Use commercial software for DNA analysis (e.g. Geneious, Benchling, DNASTAR)
• Operate and maintain lab equipment, including robotic platforms
• Execute lab work utilizing LIMS
• Keep an updated, thorough ELN
• Contribute to a knowledge-sharing, positive, safe and inclusive work environment

Job Requirements:
These skills and experiences will be required or useful for the candidate:

• Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in life sciences with practical laboratory experience
• Hands-on experience and subject area knowledge in microbiology and molecular biology
• Experience on microbial and DNA manipulation and processing
• Excellent aseptic technique
• Experience with DNA analysis software required and robotic platforms preferred
• Capacity to manage thousands of samples at a time, using LIMS and robotic platforms
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Proven ability to work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams to coordinate seamless sample transfer
